Cloudy Wednesday

Lots of activity around the home site lately. Yesterday we had a barbecue for the workers for lunch. We made hamburgers and brats and had potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, fruit salad, chips, and cookies to show our appreciation for all the guys hard work. We expected the eight carpenters and contractors that have been working on the house all summer to be there, and we were OK with the two masons who were finishing up the stonework on the chimney. We were even glad to see three electricians show up to partake in the luncheon as they have been here working on and off for the past two weeks. Then the insulation crew came with three guys in the cab, and then a second insulation truck with three more workers!! Pretty soon we were feeding nineteen people, but like the miracle of the loaves and the baskets the food went far enough to feed all and we were even asking them to have seconds so we wouldn't have any leftovers! (Thank goodness we bought a dozen burgers and a dozen brats at SAM's Club on Monday). Today the insulation guys are finishing up and tomorrow the drywall is being delivered. If the insulation inspection passes on Friday the drywall hangers will begin to do their thing on Friday! We will soon be on the hook to perform since we take over right after the drywall is complete.

Hope everyone is having a great summer and wish everyone a happy Labor Day weekend.

Happy Monday!

We had a great weekend with Becky and Dave and the kids. Also got to see Stan, Cindy and Jaremy and Jake on Friday night.

After everyone left for home yesterday Nancy and I took a bike ride around Empire and then to North Bar Lake. Lots of people at the beach at North Bar! Great day with beautiful weather. Today the carpenters came and the masons are finishing up the stone work. Insulators are supposed to be there this afternoon to start their work! Everything is progressing nicely!

We are expecting Joe and Lynda Bozin to stop by this afternoon on their way up to Charlevoix. We will go out for dinner with them.

Enjoy your week until next time.....

Another Saturday Already

Sorry for the lack of posts but we are technologically challenged on Wheeler Rd. This has been another busy week for us. Bill and Margaret were up this week spending a week at a cottage on Rennie Lake and visiting with us on Monday. We got a chance to see a couple of spots in the area with them and then had a barbecue for dinner.

Becky and the kids came up on Wednesday and set up a camp site at D.H. Day Park in Glen Arbor. We visited with them for a couple of days and Dave came up on Friday and we had dinner at their camp with Stan, Cindy, Jeremy and Jacob.

The builders were working on siding all week and the electrician, plumbers and heating and cooling guys all passed inspection so that insulation can start on Monday. I also pt the window well in for the basement window behind the garage. All is on track for us to start our work in about two weeks.

Dreamcruisin on Saturday

We headed south on Friday and are spending two nights with Tom in Sterling Heights. We had a few things to do down in southern Michigan and thought it would be a good opportunity to do them along with Evey's birthday and Beck and Dave's Dream Cruise party.

We had a good week up north last week with a few days spent with Rick and Jan Bolling and then Thursday with Bev and Gary Clark. The house is really moving along now with electricians and plumbers and masons and heating and cooling contractors working along side the carpenters to get everything ready for inspections next week.

Tomorrow we will be heading back to Wheeler Road with Nancy's cat in tow. The cat will have to get used to living up north now after spending the winter, spring and summer in Romeo with Mike and Amy. We are anxious to see if it will be able to cope with the woods, the coyotes and the neighbors cats.

We are also looking forward to visiting with my brother Bill and wife Margaret this week and Becky and the kids who will be coming up to camp later in the week.

I hope everyone is enjoying these last few weeks of summer. It is going fast!!

We helped Mike with the siding on his new garage on Saturday morning. He has built a great new workshop for himself with a storage room on the second floor.

A Beatles tribute band was playing on Nine Mile Road at the Dreamcruise.

Beautiful Mustangs all in a row!

Windows and doorwalls are in and the garage door has been installed.

The masons have been putting up stone on the front porch pillars and on the outside of the chimney.

Siding is going up on the back of the house.

Tuesday with Bollings on Lake Leelanau

Mike and Amy and the kids and Sean and Laura and the kids were here this past weekend. Jenny came up on Thursday as well. We had a great weekend and everyone got to celebrate grandpa Goodfallow's 87th birthday! Long live the king!!

Mike and I got out on Lake Michigan on Friday and caught three silvery King salmon! Mike found the secret depth and lure combination and all three fish were caught on his set-up! The biggest fish went about eighteen pounds.

We moved camp this morning to the Pines Campground on Lake Leelanau to be with Bollings for the day. The arrived yesterday to Leelanau County and found D.H. Day Campground full and Lake Leelanau Campground full. They wound up here and got a great site on the lake shore for three nights! What could be better? We are camping with them for one night on the only other site that was available for only one night.

Construction on Wheeler Road is going very well. The masons are putting up stone on the porch columns and the outside chimney and the fireplace unit was installed . The carpenters have are prepping all the trim outside to start installing siding this week. The plumber and HVAC contractors are busy putting in their materials and the electrician is running wiring and installing all the boxes for switches and wall plates. We have a lot of activity going on and things are moving right along. The schedule calls for insulation to start going in the end of next week and then drywall right after!

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer. It is going by fast!

Monday Mornin

e are back on Wheeler Road since Friday. We left Wilderness State Park on Thursday and spent a night with Joe and Lynda Bosin at their property on Lake Charlevoix. This was the first time Nancy and I had seen that lake from the water and were thoroughly impressed with the boats and homes on this lake. Since the lake is accessible from Lake Michigan via the Pine River and a drawbridge to accommodate large boats and sailboats, the lake has many huge yachts and houses for the rich and famous. It is truly a world class destination. Bozins have five and a half acres with frontage on the lake and are camping on their property in a new camper. Joe found us a place to park and took us for a boat ride and then swimming. We had a great time.

We got back to Wheeler Road on Friday and were surprised to see all the progress on the house. Today we have carpenters, plumbers, and heating and cooling guys all working together. It's great to see all the progress.

A last look at the Mackinac Bridge.
I took my polish princess to Leggs Inn at Crossroad Village for dinner on Wednesday. As always, this was a good time and a good meal.

The gardens behind Leggs Inn overlooking Lake Michigan. We had a storm brewing on the lake, but managed to eat our dinner outside on the back deck without getting rained on.

The back of the garage and kitchen.
Windows and doors! Things are moving along.

Enjoying the tip of the mitt!

We are in Mackinaw City just a short ride from Wilderness State Park. It's always a pleasure to come up to this part of the state and see "Big Mac" and the top of Lake Michigan. The campground has been cool with a lot of bike riding and beaching. We are going to go to Legs Inn tomorrow for a polish feast. We had a little rain today, but the last couple of days were gorgeous.

Heading back south on Thursday, but we plan a visit with the Bozins at Lake Charlevois on the way down.

Happy summer to all!
