Los Cabos

We flew into Cabo at about 1pm yesterday. After getting our rooms straightened out we began t explore the resort ANd get into the rhythm of the place. The complex is huge and built on the side of the mountain going down to the beach. There are carts on call that shuttle everyone wherever you want to go including sister resorts spread along the coast.
The resort is gorgeous and we have a lot to discover.

Wewere in a Presidential Suite with two bedrooms. Walt and Denise are on the other side of the main room.

Lots of space with a long balcony with a table, chairs and a couple of lounges.

Spending the night in Houston. Cabo Tomorrow

I haven't been posting from Galveston since we didn't have a WiFi signal. Tonight we are in Houston and flying to Cabo in the morning for a week.
The weather has been a roller coaster going from 70 to 30 and back again. There is another cold front moving through tonight and it's bringing wind, cold and rain.
We've been as active as we could the last couple of days with long walks on the beach and searching for a storage facility for the camper while we are in Mexico. We bought some fish at Katy's Seafood and enjoyed two great seafood meals. Red Snapper and Grouper. Yum.
I'm taking the camera to Cabo and will post pictures from the resort. Stay warm wherever you are!

Pelicans on the roof at Katy's Seafood. Waiting for scraps to be thrown out into the bay.

The docks at Galveston Island. Not far from the cruise terminal. Lots of fisherman and charters here.

Walking the beach at sunset. This is at the state park.

Our campsite near the gulf.

The blood red moon on Sunday night. Total eclipse of a full moon.

Galveston Island

Yesterday we left  Austin S P and drove about two hours southeast to Galveston Island. We are set up at the campground near the beach. We walked the beach today and the water is much browner than I remembered it. It looks like we are in for a few days of January weather as its supposed to be cloudy and cool. There's a cold front coming in Saturday with wind and a drop in temperature. Oh well, only a few days before we leave for Cabo.

Chillin' at S. Austin State Park

We're spending fivie nights here near Seely, Texas. The area is noted as the first Texan settlement of Anglo Americans headed by Stephen Austin. He settled a tract land here and set up the city of San Filipe by decree of the Mexican government. The city never was developed other than a modest settlement, but was later destroyed to keep it from falling into the hands of the Mexican army. The Mexicans were defeated near here after the Alamo and Goliad were taken by the Mexican Army.

Movin' on

We had some rain yesterday evening and after dark. It's all clearing out this morning and so are we. We move closer to Houston today to Stephen Austin State Park. We've never been to that campground, but want to check out the area on our way to Galveston.

Lazy Days of Winter

We spent a lazy Wednesday sitting around camp although we did take a long walk into town. There is a hike/bike trail along the river that connects Goliad to the mission here at the campground.
On Thursday we took a drive over to Coleto Creek Reservoir, about 10 miles from here to the park and campground they have there. We wanted to see the campground for future visits. Sites on the water, but the prices are almost double that of the state park. We took the kayaks for a ride on the reservoir and paddled for a couple of hours. The weather was sunny and warm, and winds were fairly calm. Lots of fisherfolk on the water, but I'm not sure if they were having much luck.
This morning it's cloudy and we again don't have big plans for the day. We're getting into a lazy, laid back mode hopefully that will change when we get to our different campgrounds.

Daytrip to the Gulf Coast

On Tuesday we took a drive to the gulf at Port Aransas and Goose Island. We are only about 40 miles north. We found that Texas is unbelievably flat in this area between Houston and Corpus Christie. The grasslands stretch to the horizon, and some areas are used for farming while most are cattle grazing land.
Speed limits on the two lane highways in Texas are 70 and even 75 miles per hour since it's a long way to get anywhere.
We found that the coast was still recovering from Hurricane Harvey which hit in August of 2017. There were a lot of damaged buildings and trees and bare foundations where buildings once stood. The docks jutting out into the gulf had mostly new boards on them from having been rebuilt after the storm. It's hard to imagine what these people go through after these devastating storms.
The area was mostly quiet, although there was some tourism coming back. There was also a lot of re-construction going on to fix damaged buildings.
We drove to Goose Island State Park to see what it looked like. The camping was open on the wooded side, but there was no camping on the bay side. Day use was open on the bay, and it didn't look like there was much different than when we camped there a few years ago.

The flat grasslands stretched on forever in this part of Texas

Cattle grazed here and there, and then we found the Double C Ranch with these great longhorn cattle.

At Port Aransas these off shore oil rigs were sitting on land.

A fishing pier on San Jose Island that was destroyed by the hurricane in 2017

We had a picnic here at the edge of the gulf.

Fisherman were confined to the shore since the pier was out of commission.
