Monday, June 27

I can't believe it's the Monday before fourth of July! We had a lot of rain days last week and construction was set behind. The back filling was done, the driveway extended to the garage and the garage floor was poured. This week they started putting the floor of the second story up and after that will be building second story walls. The weather man is promising sunshine for the next few days so we are optimistic.

Yesterday we took the S.S. Minnow on her maiden voyage of the summer. I know I am way behind normal for getting the boat in the water this year but with so much going on it seems to be a low priority right now. Nancy and I enjoyed a nice boat ride on Lake Leelanau and were amazed at how many boats were out. This was only the second time it has gotten to eighty degrees with sunshine this summer!

We are looking forward to our family get together this coming weekend and everyone is signing in for meals and other tasks. We sure hope the  good weather is here to stay!

Back on the Blog

We were in Southeast Michigan over the weekend and I have been very bad at updating the blog. Mike is building a garage and we went down to help. We got four walls raised, but work came to a halt because of delays in getting the trusses delivered.

We came back north on Tuesday after staying with the Wrights for four nights. They were wonderful hosts and let us enjoy the comfort of their beautiful home.

The weather back on Wheeler road has been discouraging. Lots of rain and storms moving through. The contractors were working as they could and got all of the back filling done and the driveway gravelled to the garage. The joists for the second story are also in place. We are now waiting for the weather to improve so they can continue their progress. I will post pictures when I am able.

Peace and love!

Another Beautiful Day

And more progress on walls. The house is growing slowly and we can't wait to see more walls go up.
Nancy and I were cleaning the woods and cutting wood while the builders worked on the house. It was a sunny gorgeous day and we are hoping for more.

This is how the day started out.

A couple of walls were added and more are cut and ready to be assembled.

We are scheduled for the excavators to back fill the basement on Friday.

Happy Sunday

We had a weird weather week. We came back north on Tuesday and it got to 98 degrees in Traverse City. The next day we had storms and it got to the mid eighties. The next day it only reached fifty five and then 39 that night!

We've had rainy cool weather and it has held up construction. The builders got two walls raised but they have been getting rained out the last couple days. We are supposed to have better weather this week so we are expecting great progress.

We did some exploring around Glen Arbor yesterday and visited with some of the local artists. They have a thriving artist association here and they sponsor lots of music events and and art classes. We are finding more new and exciting things about this town all the time. We also took a ride up Peirce Stocking Scenic Drive at the sand dunes and took some pictures. The area has a lot of beauty to get a person inspired.

The flowers are out, where are the tourists? (They were all in Leland at the Wine Festival!)

We saw this old Chrysler Imperial and Ford Fairlane at Pierce Stocking Drive in the Sleeping Bear Dunes. The plates said Maryland!

Thursday, June 9

Wow, has it been that long since I posted to the blog?

We had a wonderful weekend down state and stayed with Tom for two nights and Laura for two nights before spending a night with Toni and Mike (Sean's folks), at Lake Chemung just outside of Brighton. The weather down state was very warm (as it was when we got back to Traverse City). TC hit 99 degrees on Tuesday but today it cooled back down to 39 overnight and is only supposed to hit mid sixties today.

The builders have been busy and are raising walls today. Yesterday they finished the first floor decking and started putting down sealer just before the big storm hit. They are starting to move along pretty quickly now.

Here are a few pics....

Nolan is reading his cards for his very first birthday party!

Friday, June 3 already!

We are in Sterling Heights this morning spending a couple of days with Tom and Evey before moving over to Laura's for Saturday and Sunday nights. We brought David down to Mike's and he is spending the weekend catching up with his brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews.

It was a bit strange coming to southern Michigan as it is home yet home no more. We see things we miss and things we are glad we are leaving. Up north the pace is so much slower and relaxed yet we sometimes feel that we bill be far removed from things we are used to here. We are still in a transitional stage and can't wait for the house building to be completed so we can settle in and make Wheeler Road our new home.

Thursday morning we moved the camper from D. H. Day park back to the property and while we were preparing for our trip south the builder started setting up equipment and machinery to begin adding lumber to the basement. We are hoping to see some real progress on the first floor by the time we get back next week.

The masons cleaned up all the leftover block and removed their equipment from the lot to make room for the carpenters to move in. The first floor deck and walls should start going up now.

Tom and Evey from their visit last weekend.

David got into town and had a chance to visit with Grandma and Grandpa.

Happy Wednesday

We have had David visiting with us since Sunday. We stayed Sunday and Monday night on Wheeler road then moved camp to D. H. Day campground in Glen Haven. Last night they were calling for severe storms with golf ball size hail and locally damaging winds and possible tornadoes! After about ten minutes of rain and some high wind the front passed through and left without much of an impact.

We are heading down state with David on Thursday to spend a four day weekend with Tom and then Laura. Nolan's first birthday party is on Sunday and we are looking forward to seeing all the kids.

Not too much activity on the building project this week, but the builder is planning on starting the first floor by the end of the week. First the basement inspection has to take place.

That's all for now.
