February Already!

We have been on the road now for one month. We've traveled from Michigan to Texas, through New Mexico, Arizona, and are now in Maui! Great trip so far, and three months to look forward to yet.
Today we are moving to our second villa near the town of Hana on the western end of Maui. It's a smaller town, and so we have to be sure we are stocked up with groceries before we go. also fill the gas tank. We've used half a tank in the first four days here.
Yesterday we drove to Polipoli State Park and went for a rigorous 5 mile hike across the mountain side. On the way there we watched several hang gliders riding the thermals that come up the side of the mountains. Lots of folks were parked along the road and taking in the views out over the lowlands of the Island. It was a beautiful vista and seeing the gliders soaring overhead added to the enjoyment.

Today is Brad's thirty first birthday...imagine!

We enjoyed this cottage for the past four nights. Everything was provided for a wonderful stay.

The bed was comfortable but the built in cock-a-doodle-do alarm clock was set too early most mornings!

The kitchen was fully equipped and even a grill on the deck!

The road to Polipoli State Park. Looking down over the lowlands.

Half a dozen hang gliders were in the air. Oh, what fun!

Birds eye views of Maui.

Even up here the free range cattle get out on the roads.

Eucalyptus trees were abundant in the forest.

Hiking the hillsides at Polipoli.

We stopped on the road and saw a procession of classics roll by. I stopped when they did at Ulupalakua Ranch Store.

And you thought I was making that up?

Flowering vines at the Maui Winery.

And Koa trees. They make beautiful wood carvings out of this wood.

The weathervane at the winery said it all!

What a gas this place was!

Hawaiian totem poles?? (More Koa wood).
